How is exact age calculated?
The calculator counts complete years first, then complete months, and then the remaining days. For example, if you were born on 15 March 2000, then on 10 August 2026 you are 26 years, 4 months and 26 days old: 26 full years to 15 March 2026, 4 full months to 15 July 2026, and 26 more days to 10 August.
When the day of the month in the second date is smaller than your birth day, the calculator "borrows" the number of days in the previous month, just like you would when doing it by hand. Leap years are handled automatically. If you were born on 29 February, your birthday is counted on 1 March in years that are not leap years.
Checking age for government exams and jobs
Most job and exam notifications (SSC, UPSC, banking, railways, state PSCs, army and police recruitment) set a minimum and maximum age "as on" a specific cut-off date, such as 1 January or 1 August of the exam year. To check if you are eligible:
- Find the cut-off date in the official notification.
- Enter it in the "Age on this date" box.
- Compare the result with the age limit. Remember that many categories (OBC, SC/ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen) get age relaxation, so read the notice carefully.

How are 29 February birthdays handled?
In years without a 29 February, the next birthday is counted as 1 March.
