How to use the split bill calculator
Split one bill
Enter the bill amount, any tip or service charge, and the number of people. You'll see what each person owes. Tick "round up" if you'd rather everyone paid a neat amount – the extra becomes a slightly bigger tip.
Example: a ₹2,400 dinner with a 10% tip is ₹2,640 in total. Split between 4 people, that's ₹660 each.
Settle up a trip or shared flat
- Add everyone in the group and enter the total amount each person paid during the trip – hotels, fuel, food, tickets, everything.
- Leave everyone's share at 1 to split the total equally. Change it if someone should pay more or less – for example 0.5 for someone who came for half the trip, or 2 for a couple sharing one entry.
- The calculator shows each person's balance and the fewest payments needed so that everyone ends up even. Copy the list and send it to your group.
Your trip list is saved in your own browser, so you can keep adding to it during the trip.
How the settle-up works
For each person, the calculator works out their balance: what they paid minus their fair share of the total. A positive balance means the group owes them money; a negative balance means they owe the group.
Example: four friends spend ₹10,000 on a weekend trip. Aarav paid ₹6,000, Diya ₹3,000, Meera ₹1,000 and Kabir nothing. An equal share is ₹2,500 each, so the balances are Aarav +₹3,500, Diya +₹500, Meera −₹1,500 and Kabir −₹2,500. Instead of everyone paying everyone, the calculator matches the biggest debts with the biggest credits:
- Kabir pays Aarav ₹2,500
- Meera pays Aarav ₹1,000
- Meera pays Diya ₹500
Three payments, and everyone is settled. With a group of n people, it never takes more than n − 1 payments.
Tips for splitting fairly
- Keep receipts or notes as you go – a quick note on your phone after each payment saves arguments later.
- Agree on the rules first: will drinks or individual shopping be split, or paid separately?
- Use shares for fairness when people join for different numbers of days.
- Settle soon after the trip while everyone remembers – and use UPI notes so payments are easy to track.

Frequently asked questions
How do I split a bill with a tip?
Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. A ₹2,400 bill with 10% tip is ₹2,640, or ₹660 each for four people.
How do I settle up trip expenses between friends?
Add everyone's payments to find the total, work out each person's fair share, and compare it with what they paid. People who paid less than their share pay those who paid more – the calculator does this in the fewest payments.
Can I split costs unequally?
Yes. Change each person's share – for example 0.5 for half the trip or 2 for a couple – and the costs are divided in that ratio.
