How to play Memory Pairs

Memory Pairs is a sixteen-card matching game with eight pairs of symbols. Turn two cards at a time and clear the board in as few moves as you can. It is the most relaxed game on the site, and the easiest to improve at quickly, because good technique matters far more than luck.

Play Memory Pairs

Step by step

Tap any card to reveal its symbol.
Tap a second card. If the symbols match, both stay face up and turn green.
If they do not match, the pair wobbles and hides again. Note where they were before they flip back.
Repeat until all eight pairs are cleared. Your move count and elapsed time are shown above the board.
Use Shuffle at any point to deal a fresh board.

Tips that actually help

Work along a fixed route on your first pass, such as left to right along the top row. A predictable order is far easier to remember than random tapping.
Name what you see rather than trying to picture it. Silently saying "star, top left" stores better than a mental image.
When you reveal a card you have seen before, resist tapping randomly for its partner. Only commit when you are confident, otherwise you waste the information.
Every match removes two cards, so the board gets easier as you go. The first four moves are the hardest and the most valuable.
A perfect game is eight moves. Under fifteen is a strong result once you settle into a scanning routine.

Why a scanning order helps so much

Human short-term memory holds only a handful of items at once. Tapping cards at random forces you to remember both the symbol and an arbitrary position, which quickly overloads. Following a fixed route means position becomes predictable, so you only need to remember the symbol. That single change usually cuts a player's move count noticeably.

What the game tracks

Pairs cleared, total moves and elapsed time are shown while you play. Everything stays on your device. If you allowed score keeping in the privacy panel, results contribute to your stats page, otherwise nothing is recorded at all and the game plays exactly the same.
